Kata Maya is a Professional dancer and instructor from San Antonio, TX. She began her study
of Bellydance at 5 years old, and quickly knew this was her passion. Growing up at the Isis Star
Dancer Studio in Bedford, TX, Kata Maya joined each Profession Performing Company she could
and won multiple dance competitions, including Belly Dancer of the Universe at 17 years old.
While attending college at Texas A&M University, Kata Maya joined, and helped grow, the dance community in College Station. She danced with Victoria Teel, joined (and soon instructed) the Brazos Raqs Ensemble, co-produced “Egyptian Nights - a night of local and professional talent in the Brazos Valley”, and helped form The Brazos Valley Belly Dancers--a community group of dancers determined
to expand general awareness of Middle Eastern Dance within the Brazos Valley.
Kata Maya is now currently located, and performing, in San Antonio, TX. She teaches choreography classes, as well as her “Prop-Kata-Log” workshop series, out of the Karen Barbee Karavan Studio.
Kata Maya has studied with many of the top Middle Eastern Dancers and performed in multiple locations. She is known for her energy and grace onstage. From sharp hits to quick turns, from
kicks to back bends, Kata Maya is truly an upcoming star in the Middle Eastern Dance community.
